The science behind a healthy immune system

Your immune system is a vast network of cells, tissues, organs and proteins all around your body. This system prevents infections, chemicals and toxins from invading your body, acting as the body’s first line of defence.

At Sons, we believe that anyone wanting to be in optimal health should take good care of their immune system. Our Sons Immune Supplement has been formulated with a combination of specific ingredients that are clinically proven to strengthen your immune system.

Understanding your immune system

It’s easiest to think of your immune system as two main parts: the innate immune system and the adaptive immune system. Your innate immune system is your body’s first responder to the threat of pathogens (i.e. organisms that cause disease) helping to prevent illness and infection. Your adaptive immune system learns to recognise pathogens you’ve encountered before, so it can help to fight infection much more quickly the next time.

The benefits of a healthy immune system

Whilst the immune system’s main function is to prevent illness and infection, it can also have a major impact on various aspects of your general health and wellbeing.

Reduced illness & infections

Maintaining a healthy immune system will reduce your chances of catching an infection and can also support your overall health and wellbeing.

Your immune system and your energy levels are intrinsically linked, helping you to stay alert during the day and sleep at night.

Your muscle recovery is driven by your immune system, supporting rebuilding of muscle fibres after exercise.

Sons Immune Supplement

Our immunity supplement is designed with Wellmune - a yeast beta glucan that is clinically proven to prime your immune cells to respond to the threat of infections, bacteria and harmful organisms.

Alongside strengthening your immune system, the supplement also helps to support numerous aspects of your health, including your energy levels, recovery from exercise and prevention of disease.

Formulated using 11 powerful ingredients that are backed by science

Numerous published, peer-reviewed clinical studies have shown Wellmune has the ability to help safely and naturally support the immune system. Studies amongst a broad range of men have demonstrated that Wellmune can enhance key immune functions, improve overall physical health, maintain healthy energy levels, provide immune support as we age and help keep us healthy during times of stress.

Maca Root

The scientific name for Maca is Lepidium meyenii. A small number of studies have found that Maca can improve sexual desire, mood and energy in healthy men and women.

Arginine can help to boost the activity of certain immune cells in the body and therefore plays an important role in supporting a healthy immune system.

Vitamin E

Found in sunflower seeds, avocado and broccoli, vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant. By assisting with the production of T cells (a type of white blood cell), the vitamin is crucial to an effective and efficient immune response. A lack of vitamin E may therefore impact the performance of your immune system.

Vitamin D3

Vitamin D is found in some foods such as eggs, fish and mushrooms, however humans actually get most of their vitamin D from exposure to sunlight.
In the darker winter months in Europe, most people don’t get enough vitamin D, therefore the NHS recommends supplementation to make up for this lack of sunlight. Vitamin D plays a critical role in supporting the immune system and strong evidence shows that supplementation can improve immunity by reducing risk of colds and flu

Taurine is a type of amino acid. It may help to support the immune system through its antioxidant properties and protecting immune cells from oxidative stress.

Zinc is an mineral that plays critical roles in the immune system. Multiple studies have found that Zinc supplementation can reduce incidence, duration and severity of common colds.

In addition to supporting the immune system, magnesium also helps with nerve and muscle function. Magnesium helps to maintain normal functioning of the immune system.

Potassium is an important mineral and electrolyte in the body that helps to regulate fluid balance.

Vitamin B6

Also known as pyridoxine, vitamin B6 is one of eight types of B vitamins - but what makes B6 stand out? The nutrient plays a key role in over 100 enzyme reactions, assisting the body in metabolising protein and fats for energy. A large study examining dietary intakes of vitamin B6 and levels in the blood found that those with the higher B6 levels were protected against inflammation, caused by an overactive immune system.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is one of the most important nutrients for your immune system. Vitamin C is found in plenty of foods, such as citrus fruits, peppers and strawberries, and plays a crucial role in repairing muscles and other tissues and fighting free radicals which can damage cells. Studies have proven that vitamin C supplementation can have a significant positive impact on how your immune system works and may also reduce the duration of colds, especially in people who exercise regularly.

It’s important to see your immune system as a key part of your health

How does our immunity supplement work?

Wellmune is a natural beta 1,3/1,6 glucan highly purified from the cell wall of a proprietary baker’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). Consumed orally, Wellmune is taken up in the body by the Peyer’s Patches in the intestines.

Immune cells called macrophages (located in the Peyer’s Patches) ingest Wellmune and travel to the immune organs throughout the body. Macrophages break down Wellmune into smaller fragments that bind to neutrophils, the most abundant immune cells in the body.

Primed by Wellmune, neutrophils move more quickly to recognize and kill foreign challenges.

How to use our products

We’ve designed our immune supplement to be easily incorporated into your daily life. Simply mix 1 stick pack with 300ml of cold water and stir or shake well - take daily, either with meals or on its own.
