As two of the only medications clinically proven to help prevent hair loss, Minoxidil and Finasteride could have a huge impact on your hairline. In fact, when used in combination with each other, these two medications have the potential to be even more effective in revitalising your hair. But how exactly do Minoxidil and Finasteride prevent hair loss?

What’s the difference between Finasteride and Minoxidil?

First off, Finasteride comes in the form of a tablet and should be taken once a day in the morning or evening. In contrast, Minoxidil comes in the form of a topical solution that can be easily applied to thinning areas of your scalp. They also play slightly different roles in their fight against hair loss; Finasteride helps to inhibit DHT and Minoxidil revitalises hair follicles. However, it’s important to note that both medications need to be used consistently on a daily basis (once in the morning and once in the evening in the case of Minoxidil) to be effective.

How do Minoxidil and Finasteride work?

Minoxidil and Finasteride both play different roles in the treatment process but ultimately work together to help your hair. Finasteride works by inhibiting the production of DHT, the main cause of hair loss in men. With lower levels of DHT, your hair follicles will stop being damaged and miniaturised. On the other hand, Minoxidil works by increasing the blood flow to your scalp, which helps revitalise your hair follicles and increases the efficiency of nutrients and oxygen absorbed into these areas. With lower levels of DHT and an increased blood flow, your hair follicles have the best chance of fighting against the hair loss process.

What can I do to boost my chances of preventing hair loss?

Alongside a healthy diet and lowered stress levels, consistency is key for achieving the right results. Finasteride should be taken once a day, while Minoxidil should be applied twice in order to keep the treatment working. Even missing a single day can have a big impact on your hair, so we suggest mixing in your dosage with a daily routine, such as brushing your teeth or with a meal. Also, Finasteride and Minoxidil aren’t the only medications you can use to help with hair loss. Our full works treatment plan also contains Biotin and DHT-blocking Shampoo, which could potentially give your hair that extra boost.
