Sons Explains: How long before biotin supplements work?

When it comes to hair loss treatments and supplements, patience is a virtue. Given the growth cycle of your hair, it takes time for treatments to implement the changes that you wish to see. With that in mind, we explain how long it takes for Biotin supplements to work and offer some advice on how to get the most out of this popular hair loss supplement.

What is Biotin?

Biotin is also known as vitamin B7 and is a naturally occurring water-soluble vitamin. Biotin plays an integral role in the production of keratin, which is a protein that is essential for the growth of your hair, nails, and skin. While most people get sufficient amounts of Biotin from their diet, people who are Biotin-deficient are more likely to experience a range of symptoms, such as brittle nails and hair loss. Therefore, a Biotin supplement can be a viable option for many people, as we explain below.

Can Biotin treat hair loss?

Only two medications have been clinically proven to treat hair loss - Finasteride and Minoxidil. However, there are a number of other products that can improve the strength and volume of your hair when taken consistently over a period of time, one of which is Biotin. In fact, a 2017 study found that Biotin supplementation resulted in clinical improvements in hair and nail growth in patients who had a pathology of poor hair and nail health. Therefore, if you’re Biotin-deficient, there’s no doubt that supplementing your diet with Biotin can have a positive effect on your hair. For others, the fact that Biotin increases the prevalence of keratin highlights the fact that it can be an effective supplement for hair loss, but it won’t necessarily work as a stand-alone treatment.

How long before biotin supplements work?

You will need to take Biotin for around 6-12 months until you start seeing results. This is the timeframe required for most hair loss treatments, so you need to be patient. It’s vitally important that you take your Biotin supplement at the same time each day and don’t skip days. For the treatment to be effective, you need to be disciplined and consistent with your application, so try and incorporate it into your daily routine. For instance, take your Biotin supplement with a glass of water at breakfast or just after brushing your teeth.

Get started with Biotin today

Our Biotin supplement is ideal for boosting the health of your hair follicles and helps men grow healthier and stronger hair. However, for the best results, you should consider combining a Biotin supplement with Finasteride and Minoxidil, as we have done in our Full Works treatment plan. Finasteride and Minoxidil are clinically proven to treat male pattern hair loss, and supplementing them with Biotin can be an effective way to improve the health and strength of your hair throughout the course of your treatment.
