Why you should grow a beard this winter

Growing a beard has always been associated with manliness but that isn’t why you should grow one. Beards have benefits that reach way beyond their manly symbolic status. Here’s why you should grow a beard this winter.

Warmth

This is by far the most obvious reason for a winter beard. There have been several studies that prove this age-old idea. The most recent in China found that even short facial hair can increase your skin temperature by a whole °C.

Barrier

Your beard can provide you with more than a barrier from cold weather. Well-groomed facial hair protects your skin from the sun’s UV rays and against allergens. On the one hand, your keeping your skin youthful and protected from cancer, and on the other, you’re suffering less from hayfever and bacteria in the air. Win-win.

Stylish

For the modern man, growing a beard is a style-choice. Beards have become increasingly popular in recent years, harking back to a time where they were more commonplace. If a beard is kept in tip-top condition with a grooming routine, they look deliberate and stylish. You can even change their shape and style.

Confidence

When the hair on your head starts to come into question, growing a beard help you regain any lost confidence. It’s the opportunity to take ownership of your style. Many men grow beards whilst they undergo hair treatment and then keep them afterwards.

Myths

There are many myths around beards, including them making you more dominant, more manly and better in bed. Whilst some (or all) of these might not be true, we like to side with the ‘no smoke without fire’ philosophy.

Beards have always been a symbol of manliness. However, they have plenty more benefits than their macho status. From keeping the cold at bay and protecting you from allergens to being a statement of style and confidence - beards are a great way for the modern man to express himself.
