They might not be the tastiest things in the world but leafy green vegetables are a vital part of a healthy diet. In fact, leafy greens are amongst the best of the best when it comes to keeping your mind and body in good nick. Here’s why you need to more of them into your diet. 

Keep your gut happy

Regular social interaction, sharing your emotions, doing brain exercises (e.g. sudoku) and getting regular exercise are all great ways to keep your brain whirring. A recent study found that people who ate the most leafy greens each day had much slower rates of cognitive decline compared to those who ate less. In fact, greens-eaters had the memory equivalent of 11 years younger than their counterparts. 

Support your immune system 

Good choices: kale and rocket. 

Unless you enjoy being ill, it’s vital that you keep your immune system as strong as possible. There are plenty of ways to keep your immune system in top nick, including regular exercise, getting good sleep and reducing your intake of alcohol. Another way is to eat more greens. Green vegetables contain vitamins, minerals and fibres that feed the good bacteria in your gut. This helps it to fight against bad bacteria and aids the repair of your body when it’s under attack.
